E.F.O.E.P.A. announced on Monday that Giorgos Stamatouros and Malamatenia Papadimitriou are the pair that will represent our country in the World Pre-Olympic Men’s-Women’s Mixed Doubles Table Tennis Tournament to be held in Havirov, Czech Republic in April.

It was a proposal of the coaching committee of E.F.O.E.P.A. which was unanimously accepted by the Board of the Federation in its last meeting, as the declarations of participation are completed and the athletes of Olympiakos showed very good competitive figures in the events they participated in and are consistently the first Greek couple in the world ranking list of the event.

The World Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualification, as titled by the World Federation, is set for Thursday 11 and Friday 12/04 at the excellent facilities of “Sportovni Klub Stolniho” in Havirov, site of other important international competitions of the sport in recent years. Each country is entitled to send one duo and the event will provide a total of four qualifiers for the Paris Olympics.

Stamatouros (born in 1999) and Papadimitriou (born in 2004) will live the experience of a Pre-Olympian for the first time. They hold the title of Greek champions in the men’s-women’s mixed doubles since last year in Florina.

With an increase of three places from last week, they appear today at number 190 in the international mixed doubles ranking with 33 points. Last December they were placed in the quarter-final round of the Italian Feeder in Biella and there they gained the significant point advantage.

The couple of Constantinos Angelakis/Katerina Toliou, who also claimed the position up to a certain point, is currently ranked No. 610 in the world.

On an individual level and, among other distinctions, Stamatouros is the Greek champion of the men’s singles (2021) and the youth men’s singles (2018). In 2017, he finished eighth in Europe with the National Junior Team.

Papadimitriou has won a total of ten titles in the singles of all age pan-Hellenic championships (from all children to under 21). In 2019, she became the first Mediterranean woman in the Under 15 category.
