The World is a Ball: Flag is fired in Mexico for promoting bookmaker

by

The referee assistant, popularly known as the linesman, Valeria Andrade lost her job for publicizing a betting site on social media.

This type of advertising is prohibited by FIFA, as it violates the Code of Ethics of the highest football entity.

Anyone who works in sport, including referees, managers, coaches and athletes, is not allowed to do so, attests to article 26 of the aforementioned code.

“The Refereeing Commission informs that as of February 18, Valeria Sarai Andrade Lázaro will no longer be part of this commission’s referee group,” the Mexican Football Federation wrote in a statement.

The “red card” for her came from the following publication by the 29-year-old Mexican woman, born in San Luis Potosí (central region of the country), related to the 1XBET company:

“Hello friends. I want to recommend you a bookmaker, the most reliable, with the highest odds and guaranteed payouts. New players will receive $130 bonus on their first deposit. Register and don’t miss the opportunity to get rich . Click here”.

The flag, who has played in different competitions (adults and youth categories) since 2014, posted the message on Instagram (Stories), where her profile has more than 88,000 followers.

In addition to flouting FIFA’s ban, which states that game participants – obviously not fans – “are prohibited from participating in betting, gambling, lotteries or similar activities, directly or indirectly, related to football matches”, Valeria induced her followers to do something very risky.

It is known that the chance of getting rich from betting is low. It happens, but most of them get it wrong. If it weren’t for that, all the houses of the genre would be broken, and that’s not what happens. In order for them to get rich, many people lose money.

The last game of Valeria’s career, if the punishment is not revised, was on the 7th of this month, when Monterrey defeated Pumas 5-2 in the Mexican Women’s Championship.

Until the publication of this text, the removed flag, which must still have to pay a fine, had not commented on its publication on the social network nor on the sanction imposed on it.
