Thugs have been threatening Angel Di Maria in recent days and sending messages to the family of the 35-year-old Argentinian Benfica midfielder, underlining that if the player returned to Argentina to play for Rosario Central they would kill a member of his family.

Two days later, the Argentine authorities managed to arrest the alleged extortionists, as announced by the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich.

“The person responsible for the death threats against Angel Di Maria and his family has been arrested. Pablo Acoto, who was under investigation for drug trafficking, confessed to participating in wiretapping as the leader of the gang.

Sara Belen Gutierrez and Gabriel Ismael Pastore, who were his accomplices, were arrested, also by the Santa Fe Police, through PDI, while they were trying to escape,” Argentina’s Security Minister wrote on her Twitter account.

“Excellent work by the federal prosecutor, Javier Arjurbi, and Pablo Soca from Santa Fe, who helped us get information on the person responsible for the extortion. We are against the mafia, drug traffickers and extortionists, to bring security to the people of Rosario and Argentina,” Ms. Bullrich concluded.
