The relevant Press Release in detail:

THE Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurobiological developmental disorder that can be safely diagnosed by a child’s 3rd year of age. With recent data there are approx 150,000 registered people in Greece that belong to its spectrum Autism, with 2.5% of the general population involving children. This percentage is important enough to motivate us.

THE KAE Panathinaikos AKTOR is particularly aware of this issue, something it has proven since 2018, when it included the program in the framework of its Academies PAO BC Academy ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). This is the first consistent and systematic training program in a team sport, which is aimed at people on the autism spectrum.

As part of the activities that will take place in the month of April, members of our team will visit the “Sikiarideo Foundation”, a day care center for young people aged 14 and over with mental retardation and pervasive developmental disorders, while they will be present and at the 6th Special Primary School of Athens.

At the same time, inclusion trainings will be held among her children PAOBC Academy with the PAO BC Academy ASD team so that our academy athletes and parents to be able to RECOGNIZE, UNDERSTAND but also ACCEPT the diversity, but also the uniqueness of these children, for their effective inclusion and integration into society. In fact, the Teens’ section will appear in their competitive duties at the Euroleague’s Next Generation Tournament during that time with t-shirts specially designed for this purpose.

THE Panathinaikos AKTORgiving an online dimension to this important issue, will proceed with the implementation of a campaign, through social media of the group as well as the creation of videos, with the aim of informing and raising awareness about children and young people on the Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Finally, it is noted that the home match of the last game of the regular season Euroleague with her opponent Alba Berlin (11/4, 21.15) will be of a special nature, as in this context, actions will take place dedicated to the children who are in the Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Program’s scientific partner is the Psychologist and the Child and Family Support Center “Sofia Drosou”, which we sincerely thank for their support in the implementation of the program.

Thanks to OPAP, Major Sponsor of KAE Panathinaikos AKTORfor supporting the implementation of the video and his unstinting support in our team’s initiative to inform and raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder.
