“The Hellenic Volleyball Federation announces the start of cooperation with Apostolos Oikonomou for the technical leadership of the National Women’s Team.

The coach from Larisa agreed with EOPE after the decision of the Board of Directors for the bench of the National Women’s Team and will lead the representative group in the qualifiers of the European Championship.

Apostolos Oikonomou, who is currently in Switzerland and Lugano, returns to the National teams after 2013.

He started his coaching career in 2004 as an assistant coach at SPA Karditsa and from 2005 to 2011 he was on the bench of EA Larissa.

In the 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 seasons he was at AEK, winning the Greek championship in 2012 and the Super Cup a year later.

In the 2014-2015 season he was in Cyprus and AEK Larnaca and then returned to Greece on behalf of AO Thiras, where he stayed in Santorini until 2017.

The two years 2017-2019 found Apostolos Oikonomou in Finland and OrPo, where he won the Finnish cup, to then return again to the Cyclades, but this time for Pannaxiakos. He left Naxos in the 2020-2021 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In December 2020, he agreed with Panathinaikos, with whom he celebrated the Greek Cup in the 2021-2022 season.

From the summer of 2022, Apostolos Oikonomou is the coach of the Swiss Lugano. Last year, they were finalists in the Swiss Cup and took third place in the league, while this year they will compete for the Cup against Nosatel next Saturday.

Apostolos Oikonomou has been in the representative groups in the past, specifically in 2011 as coach of the junior national team, winning second place in the Balkan U20 and from 2012 to 2013 he was a direct partner of Takis Floros in the women’s national team.
