This year’s track and field meeting “Dromia” is a “magnet” for sprinters because it gives points for qualifications for the European Open Championships in Rome and for the Olympic Games in Paris.
“Dromia 2024” will resemble a small world championship. Sprinters with distinctions in Olympic, world and European championships will use the event, in order to do a strong training ahead of the big sporting dates of the year.
The number of competitors, in relation to last year, will be twice. In 2023, 107 athletes from abroad participated, while this year, so far, they have
registered participation of more than 200. The many participations were the reason for changing the program of the games and starting earlier than originally planned.
“The international athletics meeting “Dromea”, which is a co-organization of the Municipality of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni with Dromea Vari, won the first place in the ranking of the World Federation in 2023 and since this year has been promoted to the Silver Continental Tour category in all the competitions.
The top athletes who will participate distract the attention of the world sports community and the race contributes decisively to the promotion of the sports ideal, but also to the continuous effort to support important actions for the extroversion of our city”, said the mayor of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Grigoris Constantellos.
The level of the event will be particularly high and those who find themselves in the stands of the Municipal Stadium of Vari will have the opportunity to watch powerful races. The
registrations are still in progress. So far they have declared that athletes from USA, Italy, France, Belgium, Ireland, Finland, Great Britain, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Cyprus, Switzerland, Estonia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Turkey will compete. , Egypt, Saint Mauritius, Uganda, Botswana, Kenya, Dominican Republic, Gambia, Nigeria and, of course, from Greece.
Among the entries are many athletes, whose names “appear” in the first 100 of the world rankings. The World Athletics Federation upgraded the “Tracks” from “Bronze” to the “Silver” category.
The event this year includes six speed races and will distribute prizes of 50,000 euros. It will be held under the auspices of SEGAS and the Ministry of Sports.
