Serelis: “We were bad and yet we lost the match in the shot – Maccabi should have had 3.8 seconds”

by

Christos Serelis admitted that Panathinaikos AKTOR made a bad appearance today in Belgrade in his statements after the match. Ergin partner Ataman pointed out that despite this fact the greens managed to lose the game by one shot.

Regarding the objection filed by the greens, Christos Serelis spoke of a wrong decision by the referees who gave the right to Maccabi to make a 14-second attack, wrongly.

The statements of Christos Serelis in detail…

-For the game:

It is a given that we did not enter the match well. We didn’t use our bodies, our hands and our minds I would say. We gave Maccabi the right to take differences, early in the game. In the last five minutes we were very tough, we played with our opponent’s mind, we managed to turn around and now where the game went, someone will win someone will lose. One shot would have gone in and we would have won the match. In reality, however, the team was not as it should have been in the 40 minutes of the match.

-What was wrong:

We didn’t have the toughness we had at the end of the match and we allowed too many Maccabi players to get into the game, nobody had many points but the whole team that played had scored.

-If there is disappointment in the team ahead of the new match:

Obviously there is now frustration. Even though we had a really bad performance we took the game to the shootout, but we know we came here to play two games. They have to win one of the two games to get back to OAKA. We didn’t manage to win the first match, we have to prepare to win the second one.

-What conclusions are drawn that the match was lost in this way:

I think we really had a bad performance today but we managed to come back. This shows that we have the potential to stop Maccabi even though today we were not good and that we too playing smart in our attack can score and go to a high score and win the match.

-For the objection:

It is a phase that was badly whistled, let’s start there, that it was badly whistled that the basket counts. We claim that from the moment the referees blew the whistle, the ball should have been given to us. There will be an appeal, and if the ball was not given to us, Maccabi should have had 3.8 to attack and not 14 seconds because in fact Maccabi played after 14 seconds. We’ll see what hope there is for that. What is certain is that it was a whistle which, as proved by the fact that the referees gave a jumble, was the wrong whistle.
