Bodiroga: “We want the best solution with FIBA”

The Euroleague is in search of the best solution in cooperation with FIBA ​​for the benefit of the players as well, as Dejan Bodiroga pointed out. The basketball legend and current president of the organization referred to the commercial data, but also to the possibility of changing the format. He spoke in detail about:

This season brought new records, both in terms of attendance and social media as a whole, as well as television ratings. The play-in that came into this year’s process helped the competitiveness immensely, we saw almost all the teams fighting for something until the last minute.”

– the scope for improvement of the product: “The success of the Euroleague depends on the players, the coaches and the managements of the teams, on our shareholders. For Euroleague management, the main thing is what you want to do from now on. We look at the data and what emerges because we want to improve. We are looking carefully at the possibility of expanding geographically, because we take all the data into account. To succeed, we must stay united.”

-relations with FIBA: “After so many years, last year we had a meeting all together. We want to find the best solution for everyone, between Euroleague and FIBA. We want to protect our shareholders and find the best solution for all parties, especially when it comes to the calendar.”

-if there is a view to change the format: “The feedback we’ve had from teams and fans has been positive about what we have now with the play-in, so we’re not planning to change it. Maybe we will go to an extension with another format of the organization. We will see. It’s still early. I think we have a great final. Two teams that in the regular season did well and finished in the first two places. We expect a great match.”
