Givi Bliatze’s interview in detail
Givi Bliadze, congratulations, you are European champion. A dream finally came true…
“Thank you very much. I am very happy that I managed to win the gold medal. Let the National Anthem be heard. It’s a chilling moment. I am happy because I gave joy to all who believed in me”
You played a fantastic tournament. When was the point where you believed you could reach the top?
“There was no specific point, from the beginning of the race the goal was to win. I had prepared properly and felt confident in myself”
What were you thinking before the final and how did you prepare mentally?
“Before the final I was trying not to think about anything. I wanted to be calm and just go in and fight.”
Are you an athlete that everyone knows how hardworking and humble you are? You always reached the spring, but you didn’t drink water, since you had come 5th many times. Did that put you off?
“Thank you for your kind words. I was definitely stubborn about this fact and especially two years ago at the Junior World Championship I lost in the last 7 seconds to the particular athlete I fought in the final with a score of 3-3 and I lost a medal”
Have you realized the magnitude of the success and how did you feel from the great love you received from the world for the gold medal?
“I understand that it is a great distinction. I have no words for the love of the world, I am moved and I thank everyone very much. I always wish to be able to raise the Greek flag high”
Where would you like to dedicate this medal of yours?
“For sure my team and coach played a big role in what I did but I would like to dedicate the medal to 3 loved ones who passed away”
