Analytically:
“We feel the need to publicly express our deep satisfaction for the irrevocable rejection of the claims of Theodoros Angelopoulos that he brought 12 years ago against our late father Konstantinos Angelopoulos, seeking the collection of exorbitant criminal clauses (around 200 million euros) by invoking violations of a compromise agreement from the distant March 2000 between him, our father and our late grandfather, Panagiotis Angelopoulos.
The loss of our father in May 2021 did not affect the appetites of Th. Angelopoulos. On the contrary, after attending his funeral normally with his wife Gianna, he continued a few days after his attack by turning against us as well.
For our part, when we were called as heirs and bearers of our father’s memory to defend before the Supreme Court his legacy from the judicial raid of Th. Angelopoulos, we wanted to show that his claim not only had no moral basis but also lacked legal basis.
With the recent no. 582/2024 decision the Supreme Court overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal which had awarded, with a minority of its President, against our father an amount of more than 80 million euros plus interest. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously and with catalytic reasoning that the agreements that prevent recourse to justice are unconstitutional, especially with the threat of criminal clauses, concluding that the action of Th. Angelopoulos was not legal.
The same decision obliged Th. Angelopoulos to return the sums he had collected in the meantime through auctions of inherited properties, without even waiting for the final judgment of the Court.
We dedicate this great legal and moral justification to the memory of our father, by whom we stood unwavering throughout his life.”
