Santos announced this Friday (25) that they have reached an agreement for the hiring of Argentine coach Fabián Bustos, 52. The coach should sign the definitive contract in the coming days.
Born in Cordoba, he had a modest career as a midfielder. In the role of coach, he commanded only Ecuadorian clubs.
Bustos was at Barcelona de Guayaquil since 2020. Ecuadorian champion for the club, he led the team to the semifinals of the last Copa Libertadores and ended up disqualified by Flamengo, who were runners-up. He also has an Ecuadorian league title with Delfín.
“The proposal is always to bring a coach who is a winner, who seeks titles. Together with the football department, we seek the best option on the market. May he do a great job”, said Santos president Andrés Rueda, to the official website.
Fabián Bustos arrives to replace Fábio Carille, fired a week ago after an irregular start in the Paulista Championship.
The Argentinian will be the eighth foreign coach in a club that competes in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship. There are two other Argentines: “Turco” Mohamed, at Atlético-MG, and Juan Pablo Vojvoda, at Fortaleza.
Besides them, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, Paulo Sousa and Vítor Pereira, from Palmeiras, Flamengo and Corinthians respectively, the Paraguayan Gustavo Morínigo, from Coritiba, and the Uruguayan “Cacique” Medina, from Internacional, complete the list of foreign coaches in teams from the national elite.
