On his bench Lavrio will remain in the new season as well Kostas Mexas. KAE announced the renewal of the partnership with the 48-year-old coach, who led Lavrio to tenth place in the league.

The announcement:

KAE Lavrio Megabolt is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with coach Kostas Mexa for the 2024-2025 season.

The Administration of KAE Lavrio Megabolt, taking into account the results, the performance and the general presence of the team in the Stoiximan Basket League of the 2023-2024 season, made the decision to continue with Kostas Mexa in the technical leadership.

Coach Mexas was born on October 25, 1976 in Corfu.

He started coaching in the infrastructure departments of Hortiatis (1997-2003), while he was also a coach in the first team. He was an assistant coach in the women’s divisions of Alexander the Great (2004-2005) and Kastoria (2005-2006).

After serving as an assistant coach at MENT (2006-2008), Iraklis (2008-2010) and KAOD (2011-2014), he assumed the duties of first coach at the Drama team in the 2014-15 season.

Since then he has coached Apollon Patrons (2015-2017), Trikala (2017-2018), Iraklis in three different seasons (2018-2019, 2021-2022 and 2023), PAOK (2019, 2020), Ioniko Nikias ( 2022), while he completed the 2022-23 season as a direct partner of Christos Serelis on the Panathinaikos bench.

Since last year, he has been under the technical leadership of Lavrios Megabolt, which led to 8th place at the end of the regular season of the championship and a total of 10 wins, the best performance of the last three years for the team.

Mexas: “The management’s trust honors me”

In his first statements after the agreement on his remaining in the technical leadership of Lavrios Megabolt, Kostas Mexas pointed out: “It was with great joy that I accepted the proposal of the people of the team to continue together for a second season. The trust they show in me really honors me, because it was “built” during a year where we had several difficulties, but in the end we achieved our primary goal. I pointed out last year when I agreed to take over the team that Lavrio is a family and this radiates outward. I experienced it to the absolute extent last year and I have to say thank you to all the people in the team, because they have managed to create an excellent environment for a coach to work. We continue for the second year keeping in mind that we have to create an even more competitive team, because this is exactly what the next championship will be like. We see that the quality of the teams is improving, I think we will do our best to improve the quality of our own team so that we can once again present a team that will fight in all games. It will be a difficult course, we all know that, but the environment of Lavrio guarantees that we will all have our minds focused only on basketball and that is particularly important».
