It may have taken a while, but Spain’s judicial system finally worked on racist attacks by fans towards footballers!
And this because, at noon on Monday (10/06), three Valencia fans were sentenced to 8 months in prison and to a 2-year ban on entering stadiums for the racist attack on Vinicius that had taken place on May 21, 2023 in Mestalla.
A few hours after this development, the Brazilian superstar of Real Madrid sent his own and resounding message in all directions, stressing among other things that this first criminal conviction in the history of Spain is not only for those, but for all black athletes and citizens of the country!
Vinicius’ post in detail:
“Many asked me to ignore it, many others said that my fight was in vain and that I should just ‘play football’.
But, as I have always said, I am not a victim of racism. I am a torturer of racists. This first criminal conviction in the history of Spain is not about me. It’s for all black people.
I wish other racists would be afraid, ashamed and hide in the shadows. Otherwise, I’ll be here to collect. Thanks to La Liga and Real Madrid for helping this historic conviction. More to come…”
