The police forbid organized teams of Olympiakos and Panathinaikos from going to the hotels of the teams

The Hellenic Police has announced the ban on gatherings of their fans outside the hotels where the delegations of Olympiakos and Panathinaikos AKTOR are staying ahead of today’s fourth match for the finals of the basketball championship.

In a related announcement, it is pointed out that this measure is imposed as there was no timely notification but also because such a thing will posed risks to public safety.

The announcement in detail:

It is announced that by decision of the Director of the Athens Police, it is prohibited to hold public outdoor gatherings today 12-6-2024 and from 16:00′ to 02:00′ on 13-6-2024 in hotels where the sports missions of the basketball teams are staying “OLYMPIAKOU” and “PANATHINAIKOU” and every public open-air gathering related to the above gatherings as well as escorts of sports missions with a motorized course in the urban network enclosed by the streets-boulevards:

The above prohibition is imposed, on the one hand, as the organizers did not notify the local Police Authority of their intention to invite the general public to participate, at a specific place and time, in a public outdoor gathering as they should, in accordance with the provisions of article 3 par 1 & 2 of Law 4703/2020 and Article 3 of the Decree 73/2020, and as a result, the prescribed procedure of the current legislation on public outdoor gatherings was not observed and, on the one hand, its conduct poses a serious risk to public safety and threatens serious disruption of socio-economic life in the specific area, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, of the operation of the infrastructure and utility facilities of the place where it is carried out.
