Regarding the measures to protect students from the ongoing heat wave, h The Region of Attica clarifies that the decisions on whether or not to close primary schools (kindergartens and primary schools) are taken by the local mayors in collaboration with the relevant Directorates of Education, as defined in sub no. Φ1/64708/GD4/10.06.2024 circular of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs & Sports.
As was pointed out in the relevant inter-ministerial meeting on Monday 10 June on the subject “Preparing for the coming heat wave”under the coordination of the competent Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, taking the decision on whether or not to close primary schools, where this is deemed necessary (obviously in cases where the stay of students becomes difficult due to a lack of air conditioning or the necessary insulation) , will be taken by the local mayors, in whose territorial jurisdiction the building facilities of the school units are located, the Region states in a relevant announcement and notes:
The Region of Attica is on the side of the students and the educational community, supporting their work with every available tool and remains in constant readiness, in order to assist the First Grade Self-Government at any time and by any convenient means requested.
