THE 89-year-old Thanos Ionaswho is his son Emiliou Ionasone of the founders of the “yellow and black”, was at the OPAP Arena accompanied by his grandson.
As stated in the relevant information of the Museum: “A visit that caused great emotion was received today by the AEK Museum of History and Refugee Hellenism. The 89-year-old Thanos Ionas, son of one of the founders of AEK Emilios Ionas, was at OPAP ARENA, accompanied by his grandson who bears the same name as him.
Mr. Ionas stood with emotion in front of the display cases, in which there were references to his great father, and looked with interest and admiration at the representation of the sporting goods store “Ionas-Dimopoulos”, in which the founding assembly of AEK was held on April 13 1924. She even had the opportunity to remember many stories, even from the pre-war years, when she was the “mascot” of the team!
“I remember a train trip to Thessaloniki when the coach of the team, Kostas Negrepontis, was holding me in his arms” he said characteristically, while he was particularly moved when he saw photos of the old stadium of New Philadelphia, with the low stands and the clay pitch from the decades of 1940 and 1950. He also expressed a desire to attend an AEK match at OPAP ARENA».
