The announcement of Apollon Smyrna:
“GS Apollon Smyrni announces his recruitment to the technical leadership of the Association’s water polo team!
The 46-year-old Montenegrin coach after five years as the technical leader of the top team of Montenegro, Jadran Herceg Novi, with important performances from the Champions League groups as well, accepted the offer of the “blue and white” and takes over their guidance for the 2024 season- 2025!
Born on 2/7/1978, Petar Radanović, graduate physical education teacher of the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, began his career working from 2008 to 2012 in the academy departments of Jadran Herceg Novi.
From 2012 to 2018, he worked as an assistant coach in the men’s team of Jadran, alongside the current Federal coach of Montenegro, Vladimir Gojkovic, taking over from the summer of 2019 until this year (2024) as the first coach.
In this five-year period he led Jadran Herceg Novi to win four Championships (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23) and four Cups (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2023-24) of Montenegro, but also in competitive appearances both in the Clubs of the Champions League (three years) and in the Euro Cup!
At the same time, he worked as a Federal coach in the Age National teams of Montenegro, having among other things demonstrated the conquest (alongside Miodrag Mirović) of the European Under-17 Championship in Malta in 2017, the 5th place in the 2019 European U18 in Georgia and the 5th place in Romania’s 2023 World Cup.
Apollon Smyrnis and Petar Radanovic have met as rivals in the past, specifically in the 1st qualifier of the Champions League of the 2021-22 season in the Podgorica group, where the “light brigade” had won their historic first qualification in the 2nd round of the competition. Back then (September 2021) Jadran Herceg Novi had beaten our team 14-8 for the penultimate game of the 1st qualifying round, with both teams having already secured, before the match between them, the ticket for the next phase.
In his first statements on the department’s official website www.apollonwatepolo.gr, Petar Radanovic emphasized: “It is a great honor for me to take over the technical leadership of Apollo Smyrnis and to be a member of the team. We will try to achieve good results in the new season. Again it is a great honor and I hope that I will live up to the expectations of the team, the management and our fans.
It is a big challenge for me, there are many good teams in the Greek league. What I want is for all the players to be healthy during the season because that’s what you want first to create good chemistry with the coaches, the players and everyone in the team. We will go step by step to claim our goals in Greece and Europe”.
Petar, welcome to Apollo Smyrnis! Let’s have a good season with health. We will all “fight” together to achieve our goals.”
