EEC and EEAA cooperate for packaging recycling

by

The Pre-Olympic Tournament (2-7 July 2024) and the Acropolis Aegean Tournament (June 25-27, 2024) found their own “home” at the “Peace and Friendship” Stadium and will be filled with the Blue Bins, highlighting the value of packaging recycling in the field of sports.

In the context of the implementation of the Social and Environmental Responsibility Strategy, the EEC cooperates with the Hellenic Recycling Utilization Association (EEAA) to promote packaging recycling in the area of basketball in Greece, with the first stop being the top sports events of the EEC in the SEF. Thousands of sports fans of all ages are expected to closely watch the upcoming matches of the National Team for its qualification to the Olympic Games in Paris. At the same time, they will be informed by qualified EEAA officials about the correct use of the Blue Bin and the materials it accepts, but also about the benefits of recycling in general.

EEAA conceded to EEC 130 Blue Recycling bins, which will be placed inside the SEF, but also around the perimeter of the stadium (entrance doors, athletes & journalists’ areas, canteens/canteens and other public areas) for the recycling of all packaging. Throughout the Games, tens of tons of packaging waste are estimated to be recycled, diverted from Sanitary Landfills, thus reducing the overall environmental footprint of the event.

The EEC’s partnership with the EEAA not only highlights the importance of packaging recycling in the field of sports, but also highlights the commitment of the two Agencies to support initiatives that promote the green transition and circular economy.
