Angry Stefanidis: “What do I have to achieve as an athlete so that I don’t have every irrelevant person telling me what and how much I eat?”

The gold metal in the Panhellenic Championship of Panthessalikos with a performance of 4.55 meters won by Katerina Stefanidiswhich proceeded to a angry post on social media.

The Greek champion complains about comments she received from some men for amount of food which she consumed after her match in the Panhellenic championship.

At the same time he said that the problem in Greek sports it is these behaviors and not the existing facilities.

In detail, what Stefanidi mentions in her post:

I am writing this post in hopes of helping one person.

Over the weekend during the Panhellenic Athletics Championships I had a few different men (coincidence? Probably not) commenting on what and how much I eat.

I didn’t always have the same self-control but the last time and while I was eating dinner after my race, with what little self-control I had left, I tried to explain how disrespectful it is to tell a grown female athlete how much to eat. No. .. Sorry. To a female athlete. No, sorry again. To a woman. No. To a person of any age or gender.

In Greek classical sports there is a big problem in how the physical image of an athlete is treated. Because some coaches don’t know how to train their athletes, when the athlete doesn’t do well it’s because of their weight.

What should I achieve as an athlete so that I don’t have every irrelevant person telling me what and how much to eat? Showing zero respect to me and my coach?

If this is what I live after what I have achieved in the last 20 years what does every child who goes through puberty live? Or every woman or man, athlete or athlete who doesn’t dare to speak up against anyone who gives their unsolicited opinion? I often think how can I help these children? These people; What needs to be done to ensure that no one is ever allowed to set foot in a stadium again? Complaint; Complaint; I don’t know, I’m trying to think. But mostly I try not to think. I can’t think of how many talented kids quit sports because they had a coach like that tell them they’re not reaching their goal because they weigh 1 kilo more.

Do you think that the problem in Greek classical sports is the facilities? You are wrong. The problem in Greek classical sports is them. The ones that almost ruined my own career. The ones who almost ruined Karalis’ career. Those who, instead of learning from our successes, continue their bullshit. The problem in Greek sports is them. Those who certainly destroyed the careers of many sportsmen and women whose names unfortunately we will never know».
