At 10:00pm Spain and England meet in Berlin for the Euro 2024 final, with King Charles giving a royal mandate for victory.
In particular, King Charles told the team that he would prefer to win the match in a less nervous manner than the way he has won some of the previous matches.
King Charles, as he congratulated the men’s team on reaching their second Euro final in as many years, said: “If I can encourage you to secure victory before you need any last-minute miracles or another dramatic penalty, I am sure that the anxiety of the British people and the ‘heartbeat’ would be greatly alleviated!’
The royal order came as the King led celebrations for Gareth Southgate’s squad arriving in Berlin. “My wife and I join our whole family in wishing you our warmest congratulations on qualifying for the final of the UEFA European Championship – and sending our best wishes for Sunday’s game,” he said.
England’s men are hoping to emulate the success of the women’s team – the Lionesses – who won Euro 2022.
Prince William, president of the Football Association, will be at the match. However, Spain’s royals have taken an early lead in support. King Felipe VI will be there along with his youngest daughter, Infanta Sofia, who is a huge soccer fan and was in attendance to see Spain’s women win the World Cup in Australia in 2023.
The Prince of Wales visited the England national team before the tournament began and attended two of their matches, where he “passed on” Prince Louis’ advice that players should eat more to ensure success. Whether they’ve had a double breakfast or not, the king has the final say, ending his message with “good luck, England. Charles R.”
