The announcement states in detail
PAE Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Mateus Kardosos Lemos Martins, better known as Tete, by transfer from Turkish Galatasaray! The Brazilian winger signed a four-year contract.
Tete was born on February 15, 2000 in Alvorada, Brazil. He started at a young age in the academies of Alvorada and continued in the academies of Gremio, a club where he made his first professional steps in 2016 and remained until 2019.
In January 2019 he was acquired by the Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk with whom he did great things from the first months, taking the shirt of the main player in his… home. Characteristically, he scored twice in Shakhtar’s victory in the Cup final. In the second season he scored 9 goals and played in the Europa League, while in the third year at Shakhtar he participated in the Champions League and even scored against Real Madrid in Spain. In his last year in Ukraine he scored 10 times. In total he celebrated 2 championships, a Cup and a Super Cup, playing 108 games and scoring 31 times.
The Russia-Ukraine war changed the course of Tete’s football career. At 22, he had already achieved a lot at Shakhtar but made use of FIFA’s rule on foreign players playing in Ukraine and in March 2022 he moved to France on loan for Lyon. He remained there until January 2023, with a total of 30 appearances and 8 goals. He then went on loan for six months to English Leicester, where he played in 14 matches.
Last summer he was acquired by Galatasaray, with whom he recorded 45 appearances and three goals, winning the league and the Super Cup.
He has played in the U20 and U23 national team of Brazil.
Tete took the number 10 jersey and was named in Panathinaikos’ roster for the European games against Botev Plovdiv.
We welcome Tete to the Panathinaikos family.
