The upcoming rematch between Botev Plovdiv and Panathinaikou commented the veteran footballer of the Bulgarian team Georgi Georgiev.
The 61-year-old former international Bulgarian referred to the great importance of this specific match, while he emphasized that the “greens” in his opinion do not have a roster that should Botev to be afraid.
For the record, Georgiev met him Panathinaikos in the 1988/89 season in the “U16” phase Cup Winners’ Cup with the CSKA Sofia. The “greens” were eliminated with defeats of 2-0 and 0-1.
In detail what he said:
“The most important game is the match against Panathinaikos next week. They must play with courage, determination and concentration. I have played against them with CSKA Sofia and we beat them in both games. They had seven international players then and were very strong.
Victory with the help of the fans is essential for Botev. The race in Europe is more important. Panathinaikos did not show a particularly strong performance. For me, this is the match of the year for Botev, as they can always play with Loko.
They need to correct some naive mistakes they made in Greece. In the first half I didn’t like their image, but in the second half things changed. They need to start strong from the first moment and keep it going until the end.
In Panathinaikos there are three very quality players, but the rest are nothing special. Three players is not a whole team! This has to be the match of the year for Botev Plovdiv! Under no circumstances should they relax against Loko! They have to give everything in this match. When you play often, twice a week, you get in the best shape. They must perform against Loko and against Panathinaikos with their best.”
