The Frenchman Lanois takes over KED

The French Stéphane Lanois is UEFA’s proposal/indication to the EPO to take over the presidency of the Central Refereeing Committee.

The EPO Arbitration Officer, Roberto Rosettiassured that he will personally support the three new executives, who are expected to be ratified by the EPO on Thursday, initially by the meeting of the Professional Committee and then by the Executive Committee of the EPO.

For his position the Italian Paolo Valeri was proposed as deputy president and head of VAR and for his assistant and VAR project manager the Spaniard Roberto Alonso Fernandez.

The 54-year-old Lanois has a long career as an international referee, having officiated at Euro 2008 and Euro 2012, the 2010 World Cup, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, as well as many matches in the Champions League. On 12/6/2012 he managed the Czech Republic-Greece 2-1 for the Euro, while on 14/10/2014 he was in Greece-Northern Ireland 0-2 for the Euro qualifiers.

At the collective level, he has “whistled” three matches of Olympiacos, Olympiacos-Benfica 5-1 on 27/11/2008 for the Europa League, while for the Champions League Arsenal-Olympiacos 2-0 on 29/9/2009 and Olympiacos-Malmo 4-2 on 9/12/2014. He was also on 21/8/2013 in Schalke-PAOK 1-1 for the Champions League qualifiers.
