Philip Max is the new transfer acquisition of Panathinaikos, who will wear the shirt of the “trefoil” until 2027!
The German left back made his first statements on the PAE channel and emphasized, among other things, that he will also leave his heart on the field.
In detail what he said:
What are your first feelings about the transfer to Panathinaikos?
“I’m really happy to finally be here. We had very good discussions with my agent, the people at the club. I’m looking forward to the first games.”
What were your first thoughts when you heard about Panathinaikos’ interest?
“That it is a great historical team, one of the top clubs in Greece, with a lot of energy and heart, thirst to achieve big goals. This is a great opportunity and challenge for me, to be part of this plan, this beautiful club, beautiful team. I’m looking forward to the first games, getting to know all my teammates and helping the team.”
Did you try to find information about the Greek league, your new team?
“In the previous years with Eindhoven and Eintracht I faced PAOK, so I know the Greek culture very well, I know that people get excited and give a lot of energy to support their team. This suits my own football style, to give everything and leave my heart on the pitch. This is what I want to present on the field. We were also teammates with Tin Gedvai for one year in Augsburg. We had a short communication before I agreed and I only heard positive things about the city, the club, so it was not a difficult decision to come to Panathinaikos”.

After so many years in the Bundesliga, what do you expect to find in Greece?
“As I said, facing Greek teams I saw passion and energy, so I expect that. The title race is also difficult, with strong opponents. But also at the international level, I watched the team’s matches against Braga and Marseille last year and it was very close to the Champions League groups. So I expect a good Championship, good quality, difficult matches. I also think the away games will be difficult, while at home we will certainly have great support from our fans. I will give my best to get victories and win trophies.”
How would you describe yourself competitively?
“It’s always kind of hard to describe myself. I always try to do my best. I am a left back, I have experiences from different Leagues and competitions in different countries. I will try to bring my experience, defend well, attack with crosses, help in the organization. This is what I want to do at the beginning and then, gaining confidence and competitive pace, I will be able to try other things. Initially it takes work to get to know my teammates, to learn how they want the ball, to learn how I want the ball, so these first few weeks are really important.”
When your contract with Panathinaikos ends, what do you dream of having achieved?
“When I found out about the offer, my first thought was that I want to win a title. Last year the team won the Cup. The whole team wants to win the Championship again after several years. I will try to help together with my teammates, the technical staff, the fans, to reach the goal. I also want to play in international games.”
What gives you more pleasure, a goal, an assist, a saving tackle?
“A good mix of everything! But if I have a part in a team goal, it doesn’t matter if I scored it or provided the assist. In the past it gave me more joy to give an assist, but scoring a goal isn’t so bad either!”
A message to Panathinaikos fans?
“I’m really happy to be here. I will try to give my 100% every day in every training, in every match, to fight for everything possible. I will give all my energy to the team and put it on the field. I will give my best and that is my promise.”
