His first statements since the day he stopped being his coach Stefanou Tsitsipas his father did. Apostolos Tsitsipas spoke on the website tennistourtalk.com speaking of a decision of his son which may change again in the future.
“It’s not the first time”stated -initially- and continued:
“Stefanos has decided that for a while he just wants me to be his father and not take part in training. It’s up to him to decide how he feels, I have to respect that. He must also understand what he wants, he has his space. At some point he may come to me again and say “I want to train with you because I like the way you guide me”. You never know. He is my child and I will never stop being his father.”
Apostolos Tsitsipas added:
“He is with the captain of the Davis Cup team now (Dimitris Hatzinikolaou). We are partners in national Greece. He has had other coaches in the past, it is his decision. Coaching is a personal thing. The principles are the same but the style of play is different, as is the coaching. It will take some time for another coach to make the right adjustments to guide him.”
