Jovanovic: “It’s a team that can make promises, that can change things”

by

At the press conference ahead of her match National with the Finland (07/09, 21:45) spoke o Ivan Jovanovich.

The federal coach referred to his debut on the bench of Greece, to the quality of the roster, but also to the world.

What he said in detail:

To start the group: “It’s a national team with a lot of young kids. A team that can make promises. It can change things. Because I was living intensely these days I have a great desire to help them achieve something that we have been missing for the last 10 years. Because I am new in this environment, it is all the children of EPO and those who were with us for the part of the organization and the procedures for the preparation. It is a good opportunity to thank everyone. There were many children working with us to have all the comforts.

They spend many hours with us and with hard work. We also had very good conditions for the preparation and I would like to thank Mr. Spanos for the facilities granted to us from Monday and for the hours we want and Mr. Angelopoulos. Really my first picture of the players and it’s not just training. All conditions were at a very high level. The players have the right to have the same conditions here as they have in their teams.”

For the players he has in attack:“It’s difficult. They are all good players. And those in front of them. Difficult. As a coach, I have to find a way. Find the game. To take advantage of all the virtues they have. It’s the hardest part of the job. We have a lot of kids and young ones and at a very good footballing age.

We have more experienced guys who need us. Games play an important role because unfortunately I cannot train them on a daily basis. It’s not just the 3 strikers. We have very good players in all positions.”

For the data that Greece must have with Finland: “The level of the Nationals is always very interesting. Each country represents something of its own. We have rivals whose main element is competitiveness. England have had the same manager for 6 years and have a good level of how they want to play. We definitely want to win. There is no question of what we want. It will be a boost for the players themselves. As a dominant element to have patience and good circulation. Finland defends well and counter attacks.

Because we will be playing at home, we will be in a great mood. It won’t be easy but nothing is easy. It’s a new beginning. To complete as a player they must have a very big success. The National team and a big event is something that stays forever as they did generations ago. This generation should try to do it too.”

For his contacts with the players and the XI: “The conversations we have are getting to know each other. How do they feel and my reasoning for the National Team. There are players who play in teams. Of course I have made a decision (about the 11). But I always have thoughts about readiness because we also have a game in 3 days against Ireland. We are in a very good mood and that is important to overcome various obstacles.”

On the diversity of his position as a technician in the National Team: “I cannot suddenly change my thinking and my philosophy because I am in the National Team. I will try to make the 11 depending on the need. It has nothing to do with the opponent. We have analyzed him. We know him well. The more things we want to bring to the pitch. This first game should represent the Greek element. Temperament, ego and right now that’s the asset I want to bring to the game.”

For the world: “I know the audience very well. I know what he can offer and what he wants. I would go to us more because we need to step up. Something different. An excess. Because 10 years is a long time. When it’s been so many years, it loses a little interest. We will have to make a breakthrough and I have no doubt how the world will respond. Either here or outside we will have the support”.
