In Orestiada, the 2025 Balkan Table Tennis Youth Championship

by

Orestiada undertook to organize the Balkan youth table tennis championship of 2025. The nomination of E.F.O.E.P.A. prevailed at the conference of the Balkan Union of the sport, which took place on the evening of Friday 06/09 in Sarajevo and Orestiada will host the top annual event for teenagers, boys and girls (athletes under 15 under 19) next summer year.

It is also particularly important for the Greek federation, the Greek city and the sport in general, the fact that the established matches were assigned to the same place for the second time after the summer of 2023. In essence, the BTTU rewarded the excellent work done last year in kind cooperation of E.F.O.E.P.A. with GS Filias Orestiadas and the local lords. In fact, the contributors to the organizational success were immediately interested in taking the event again for the “Nikos Samaras” gym, stressing that they will ensure overall even better conditions. Taking over the youth championship was not possible for 2024, however this year’s candidacy was voted, with the advantage always that the city of Evros is closer to the Balkan countries.

Through the chairman of its board of directors, Kostas Papageorgiou, E.F.O.E.P.A. as is well known, he also submitted a relevant file for the 2025 Balkan men’s and women’s championship. However, he lost this event to the Turkish federation. The major league championship will be held next year in Bursa, in the northwest of the country.

On the sidelines of the games, which continue in Sarajevo with eight Greek internationals, the elections for a new board of directors in the Balkan Union took place. For E.F.O.E.P.A. Kostas Papageorgiou attended and voted.

BTTU CHANGED PRESIDENT

Aleksandar MATKOVIC from Serbia was elected as the new president of BTTU. He succeeds the Bosnian Mirsad PAJEVIC, who was however re-elected to the Board of Directors.

All management members as listed in English: Mirsad PAJEVIC (BIH), Goran TILOVSKI (NMAC), Aleksandar NACHEV (BUL) and Nehad CITAKU (KOS). Let us add that the late Christos Christodoulatos (2005-2006) was also president of the Balkan Union for a short time, a photo exhibition about which Orestiada had last year, on the occasion of the completion of 50 years since the foundation of BTTU.
