THE Svetislav Pesic believes that the Dream Team of 1992 cannot be considered the best national team in history, as the level of competition then was not comparable to today.
“In 1992 I was coach of Germany. Team USA was great, but it’s hard to say they were the best of all time. Those were other times. Things have changed a lot since then, basketball has progressed a lot, especially in countries outside the US. It would be wrong, almost destructive, to say that the best thing in basketball was 30 years ago. Of course even today the USA has the most talented players, especially when compared to small countries like Serbia. But it makes me happy that basketball has grown all over the world. That’s why I disagree when they say that the Dream Team was the best there was. It is impossible to say such a thing since basketball is much better today“, said the Serbian coach.
As for which player he collaborated with was the best, the 75-year-old coach who led Serbia to the Olympic bronze medal answered: “Nikola Jokic! Jokic is the best right now… Before him was Toni Kukoc and Dejan Bodiroga».
