The criminologist, ?Elli Melemi, spoke to “Trial in SKAI” about the Romano case and its Greekization and the illegal betting circuit.
Her statements in detail:
“?In this application I see three applications, for acceleration of Greekization and renewal of the ten-year residence permit. He approves all three and we have to see, in principle, if the one who does it is competent. The state should always work like this and not citizens needing four years for their applications to be approved. They should, as in this case, be approved in 14 days.”
??For the case of illegal betting and the initials in the names he noted: “I have never seen it myself. It’s a huge file, no subpoenas have been served and even they can’t get copies. When called they will not take me initials.
Police transfers can be initialed, but not the case file. It is impossible. Although prosecution for serious crimes has been brought, no preliminary examination has been held and none of the 170 people has given an explanation. When they saw that these are the defendants they prosecuted. It takes very special conditions for this to happen.
?However, in the specific case file they do not exist. You said arrest warrants were issued and not executed. These are people with seven felonies, so serious, and some have not even been indicted. Some may be public servants, be prosecuted for a criminal organization, and they will not be allowed to speak.
From the moment the case file is in the drawer, the defendants are hostages. Secrecy also requires speed, because otherwise, I repeat, they are hostages. No defendant can have knowledge of the case file. Someone can see their initials and not know why. They found out when their cell phones were taken away. At this moment they must apologize or give explanations”.
