The analysis of the phases by Lanois: “He counted the goal of Piero correctly, Tete is looking for contact”

by

The controversial phases (some, of course, of them) of the 4th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League were analyzed by the KED referee, Stéphane Lanois. The Frenchman explained, among other things, why correctly counted Piero’s goal in AEK’s 1-0 win over Volos, while he also referred to Tete’s phase in Toumba, stressing that there is no penaltysince the Panathinaikos player seeks contact.

He said in detail:

For the Tete phase:In this case the attacker seeks contact with the intention of winning a penalty. The referee is in an excellent position with a clear picture of the phase and lets the game continue. If a penalty was awarded we would expect VAR to intervene».

For Piero’s goal:In this case the goal must be awarded. Both players (attacker and defender) claim the same way, with their hands in natural football contact».

And he mentioned other phases as well:

AKTOR-Fearless Star:

When a goal is scored the VAR must check what happened during the attack. Here we have two situations to check. First if the ball went out of bounds. The VAR checked all the cameras, but there was no indication that the ball went completely out of bounds.

Second, possible offside. The attacker starts behind the midfield and the ball is passed to him by an opponent».

Lamia-Athens Kallithea:

In this case both hands of the player are in the same position in natural motion. He does not extend his arm and has a natural movement when the ball touches his hand from close range».

Olympiacos-Panitolikos:

In this case the defender tries to play the ball and after a deflection it finds his hand which is in a natural position. No penalty even if the referee had indicated it the VAR should have intervened».
