“KAE Olympiacos announces the start of its cooperation with Yiannis Kalambokis.
Yiannis Kalambokis was born on August 15, 1978 in Ilion. He has a long career in Greek basketball as a player, while since the 2016/17 season he has been working as a coach. From September 2024, he belongs to the coaching staff of KAE Olympiacos.
He started his career in the local team of Ilios, “Neoi Palatianis”, with which he competed in the second division of the E.S.K.A.. In 1999, he switched to A.O. Paleo Faliro, who competed in the A2 national category, while he took the big step in 2003, when he signed for Olympiacos, with whom he competed in the A1 and Euroleague.
He has also worn the jerseys of AEK, PAOK, Panioni, Benetton Treviso, Ikaros Kallithea, Alba Berlin, Kolossos Rhodes and AGOR. An important milestone in his career was the bronze medal with the Polish Men’s National Eurobasket in 2009. On August 29, 2016, he announced his retirement from active action at the age of 38 and immediately turned to coaching.
In the 2016-17 season he was a member of the technical staff of Panioni, then Peristeri, in 2018-19 he worked for Zhejiang Lions (China), returned in 2019 to Peristeri, while in 2020-21 he was on the bench of Dafni Dafniou. He was also on the coaching staff of the Men’s National Team from 2017 until the summer of 2021, while from 2021-2024 he was the coach of the U16 (Children’s) National Team.”
