Kourousi on Sunday competed in the European Junior Saber Cup in Tbilisi against 39 other junior fencers from five different countries. It went through the pool phase undefeated and, in fact, was ranked No. 1 for the formation of the table of 32.
She successively eliminated Georgian Elena Inasaritze with a score of 32 with 15-3, Turkala Celine Naz-Ocek with a score of 16 with 15-5, Turkish Isil Betul-Elustu in the quarterfinals with 15-3, Azera Leila Ahmadova in the semi-final with 15-2 and Turkala Irem Guner in the final with 15-8.
The athlete of Yiannis Notaras managed to climb to the first step of this event last year as well. The score that secures her first place is valuable in shaping the European junior saber ranking, in which she is currently in second place with 198 points.
We remind you that in the previous season (2023-2024) Koourousi took eighth place in the European Junior Championship and tenth in the World Championship of the same age category, while she also “climbed” to third place in the EFC junior ranking, collecting 214 points from eight cups and the European Championship.
