FIFA announced this Monday (7) temporary measures regarding foreign athletes and coaches who work in Russia and Ukraine, countries at war. The governing body of world football has granted permission for contracts with clubs to be suspended and professionals to remain active in other teams.
In the case of those affiliated with the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF), unless the parties reach an agreement to the contrary, the commitments will be considered stalled until the end of the season in Ukraine on 30 June 2022. No formal action will be required. for the suspension to be considered effective.
Foreigners affiliated with the Football Union of Russia (FUR) will not have an automatic suspension. But if they do not reach an agreement with their teams by next Thursday (10), players and coaches will have the right to unilaterally suspend the agreements until the end of the Russian season, also on June 30.
“Suspension of the contract […] will mean that players and coaches will be considered ‘out of contract’ until 30 June 2022 and will therefore be free to sign a contract with another club without facing consequences of any kind.”
In order for professionals to have the flexibility to define their future, the entity exempted them from the transfer window rules. Even if the period for the arrival of players has ended in the country of destination, they will be able to sign and act. For this, they will only need to register until March 7th.
There will be a limit established for each association that decides to receive athletes from Russia and Ukraine. “To protect the integrity of competitions, clubs will be able to register a maximum of two players benefiting from the exception,” FIFA said.
There are 129 foreigners in the Russian Championship, 13 of them Brazilians. The Ukrainian Championship has 95 non-Ukrainian athletes, 30 Brazilians. Some, like Pedrinho, who is negotiating his return to Corinthians, are of interest to teams in Brazil.
