Pirola: “I was impressed by the work of Olympiakos – I struggled at the beginning, the only thought here is the victory”

THE Lorenzo Pirolaa central defender whom Olympiacos acquired in the summer from Salernitana, spoke to the official website of the Italian Federation and referred to his career so far in the team, but also to his life in Athens.

At the same time, he emphasized the great will to win that exists in the club, but also the important competition of the Greek league, with five groupsas he said, to claim the title, but even the rest not to be easy opponents at all.

In detail what he said:

For the reasons he chose Olympiakos: “It’s not the typical transfer for a 22-year-old, but I was so impressed by the project that I accepted immediately. In 2025 the club will celebrate its 100 years, we are playing to win the league, there is the Europa League, last year they won the Conference. The level is very high.”

About life in Athens: “We are doing well, we have taken a house in Voula, in a residential area, where my other teammates are also. Obviously I communicate with everyone in English, being the only Italian, with Greek words I started with the basic ones like “Good morning”. I knew that this experience would also teach me a lot from a language point of view, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to be understood by anyone. Athens is a city comparable to Rome, even if I have never lived there: chaotic, but beautiful, with the sea and history within a few kilometers.”

For the Greek league: “I have already played to win, in Monza, while in Salerno the goal was mainly salvation. But here the only thought is victory. The team is strong, the players are strong and in the first few weeks I struggled a lot. There are five high-level teams, the league is competitive and in fact the matches are difficult against teams that are small on paper.”

On his friendly relationship with Brignoli: “We found them directly as people and he explained certain things to me (he means in relation to Greece).”
