The football world in Greece, but also in England, is devastated by the sudden and untimely death of its player Panathinaikou…
The memory of the deceased was honored this morning and dozens of Sheffield United fans outside the team’s groundas Baldock was well-loved in his seven years with the Blades.
Shocked by the death of the 31-year-old ace, the chairman of the British club, Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud, spoke to talksportexpressing his deep sorrow for the tragic event, while also referring to the exceptional character he had as a person.
Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud’s statements in detail:
“This is really, really hard to deal with, and if it’s hard for me and his teammates and the fans, imagine how hard it is for his family.
He was respected by all, a true gentleman on and off the pitch, he was everything you could want in a Sheffield United player and I am very, very sad. Extremely sad.
He worked hard, he was a very good player, he gave everything, he was honest, I don’t know if we have had a better character or a better player in the 11 years I have owned the club.
My thoughts are with his family, I saw the news just before I got on the flight (to Paris) and I was thinking about him the whole flight.”
On whether he will be honored at Sheffield’s next match: “It goes without saying, but I don’t know if anything would be enough to explain or show how we feel and how great this loss is.
My heart goes out to his family and the people around him, we’ve had a lot of special players but I can tell you without hesitation that he was one of the most respected, the most loved and he really was a great player and a great person.
Everyone who knew him loved him. I am very proud to have met him and to have played for Sheffield United when I was the owner. It’s devastating news for me, my family and the whole Sheffield United family.”
