Baldock family: ‘Leak of inaccurate news about cause of death, respect right to privacy’

The announcement in detail:

“As is well known, two days ago a tragic loss took place in the field of sports. The sudden death of George Baldock has caused enormous grief both in Greece and in his native United Kingdom.

As can be understood, these moments are particularly difficult for the close family environment of the bereaved person.

Despite the fact that the family of George Baldock, has requested from the first moment, to be respected the bereavement he is experiencing, given the existence of a child, with relevant information to the press in the United Kingdom through its attorneys, its wish that has not found a response in our country.

The leaking of inaccurate news concerning the causes of death when the prescribed procedures have not been completed by the competent authorities, the taking (without consent) of photographs from the home of the deceased, all kinds of paraphilology presented on a daily basis by the written press and the radio and television media in relation to the deceased, cause greater tension in the already burdened emotional state of his relatives.

The family once again asks journalists to respect the statutory right to privacy of both the deceased and his family, and to adhere to the basic principle of the Code of Journalistic Ethics, i.e. that of dealing with people who are in a state of mourning and mental anguish with discretion and sensitivity (article 2 par. e Code of Journalistic Ethics).

In this context, the family wishes to make it known that it does not wish to make any other statement to any means of communication and requests that any publications in the press and radio and television media be limited to public documents, which do not contain personal data of the deceased and of his relatives.
