Responded to the complaint received from the association of European leagues, FIFPRO Europe and La Liga FIFA.
In an official statement, the world football’s governing body claimed that those who denounced it want to protect their own interests and spoke of hypocrisy, while making it clear that the FIFA calendar is the only body that guarantees that international football can continue to survive , while protecting the general interests of world football.
FIFA’s statement:
“The FIFA calendar is the only body that guarantees that international football can continue to survive, co-exist and prosper alongside national and continental club football.
Some European leagues (which are competition organizers and regulators) act with commercial interests, hypocrisy and without regard for others.
These leagues obviously prefer a calendar full of friendlies and summer outings, often involving extensive travel around the world.
Instead, FIFA must protect the general interests of world football, including the protection of players, in all parts and at all levels of the sport.”.
