The “3 out of 3” in the groups of this year’s Europe Cup was made on Wednesday night (23/10) by PAOK!
Putting in an excellent performance on both sides of the floor, the “two-headed man of the north” subdued with characteristic ease 82-66 in Zolnoki from Hungary to Palataki, for the 2nd matchday of the competition!
With its very good and pressing defense as an ally, but also its versatility in attack, the team of Massimo Chancellori she justly prevailed over her opponent and is now looking at the scoreboard from the top of the group!
The first scorer for the winners was Cruiser with 15 points and 6 rebounds, with Forrester and Reynolds to follow in performance with 13 and 11 points respectively.
The match:
The start of the match was quite balanced, with both teams going hand in hand in the score in the first 7 minutes of the first quarter (16-16). At that point, Mr PAOK managed to escape thanks to the versatility of his attack, he was able to close the period at +5 for 24-19. With two consecutive 3-pointers by Papadakis and Persidis, the Thessalonikians pushed the difference to double digits for the first time (30-19) in the 12th minute, with Henderson, Upson and Kreuzer keeping the score high. Subotic and Jovanovic temporarily reduced for Zolnoki (38-32) in the 19th minute, with Upson in the final shaping the 41-32 at halftime.
Thanks to its very good first half, PAOK entered the third period with acquired speed, where they practically cleared the case for victory! And that’s because thanks to his excellent defense and energy, he managed to find many easy points in the open field. Thanks to an impressive 11-0 run towards the end of the quarter, Massimo Cancellieri’s side went all the way to +26 for 62-36 in the 28th minute, closing the period with score 62-40!
Somehow, the fourth and last quarter became procedural, with the Hungarians only managing to “nibble” the difference in the last 3 minutes of the match, with the final horn of the match finding PAOK triumphant with score 82-66!
The quarters: 24-19, 41-32, 62-40, 82-66.
