Grigoriou: “The role of the coach has been downgraded in Greece – Is Manzios good now?”

by

The opinion that the role of the coach has been degraded in Greece was expressed by Michalis Grigoriou speaking in Metropolis. The Greek coach emphasized the need to support the coaches and their work and cited Razvan Lucescu and Akis Manzios as examples.

His statements in detail:

For the role of coach:

“When there is a success, the important thing is to recognize that the team is doing well and not who offered more the previous or the next coach. Now up and down the teams have a structure and a continuity, the details are what make the difference through a game and this plays an important role in the development of a team. I have been in this job for 21 years, I am 50 years old and I can say that the role of the coach has been degraded in Greece, which is an example in the Mediterranean. When you choose a coach, you have put all the criteria down, you have chosen him and you must support him and not change him in 2 months. We rely on the result and not on the structure and mentality.”

For Razvan Lucescu:

“We have the example of Lucescu who has been in the team for a number of years, with a break, having brought titles and showing the way. There was trust from the management, time was given and it brought results that no one can dispute.”

For Akis Manzios:

“He has given his credentials, he came third in the league in previous years, he reached the final after 14 years and again before the game with Olympiakos was at stake, he had a doubt over him, so now Akis is good? Everything ok now? If he didn’t beat Olympiakos and PAOK would he be good? We would wonder if the ship can take it or not…”

For mid-season coaching changes

“A team that changes coach in the middle of the year, does not make a better course for a team. That’s what I’m looking for too, to create something from scratch and stay, because when this happened I had a very good course. For something to be successful, there must be mutual trust.”
