Mitsotakis to SKAI: “Important steps have been taken for the consolidation of Greek football”

Initially, he did not want to comment on the matter that has arisen in the last few days in the United Kingdom with the dispute between Vangelis Marinakis and the owner of Aris, Thodoris Karypides, as revealed by relevant publications.

“It is a private dispute in the UK. We do not comment on it. We are not involved in this case”was his modest report and then he talked about the situation in the Greek league…

“If you look at the big picture, very important steps have been taken. Possibly some, a year ago, did not expect the current government to implement them. See the big picture. It has nothing to do with a year ago. Significant interventions have been made. Like the automated penalties, which are imposed, without any preference towards any team as you see. The electronic tickets, with the automatic identification, the cameras in the stadiums. The fact that we have a competitive league, the refereeing that there are no serious complaints. The president of UEFA came to Greece and told us how we did this.”

Kyriakos Mitsotakis continued by underlining that the Government’s desire is to have the team owners and the teams as allies.

“Important steps have been taken to clean up football. We want the teams and their owners to be allies because they will be the first to benefit from the rise of football. And the fact that we have a competitive league is good, because the revenue increases, more fans come and there is more interest for everyone”he concluded.
