Senior Olympiacos, painted “red and white” the first “eternal” derby for this season in Volleyball League!
Despite facing a highly competitive Panathinaikos, the Piraeus team managed to celebrate the victory with 3-1 sets (23-25, 25-23, 28-30, 21-25)leaving with the three points from the Mets’ closed and making it 2/2 at the start of this year’s championship.

At the beginning of the 2nd set, Olympiacos took a 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 lead with Perin’s pipe, while Panathinaikos equalized at 5-5 after a Koumendakis service error and a Nielsen point. At that point in the derby, the visitors escaped with 8-5, after the second ace of Pagenk and a point of Travitsa, while Panathinaikos reacted, reducing the point, 11-12 and 12-13, while equalizing after an hour, at 14 -14. The “greens” took the lead for the first time in the 2nd set after 1-0 (18-17) and then took advantage of the momentum, reaching 25-23 and tying the score at 1-1!
In the 3rd and most exciting set, Olympiacos took an early three-point lead and went 8-4 ahead thanks to some terrific hitting from Djuric, while Galdini’s team stayed at +4 until 8-12, before Panathinaikos went on a run. 4-0, making it 12-12! The visitors maintained their small lead, until the hosts took the lead for the first time in the 3rd set, 19-18, while Olympiacos had the set ball at 23-24, but Atanasievic made a wrong serve, with Panathinaikos equalizing. in 24-24. Finally, after 6 set balls, Olympiacos reached 30-28, winning the 3rd set and making it 2-1!
With their morale high after their marginal dominance in the 3rd set, the “red and white” entered the 4th with a 7-5 lead, with Panathinaikos however staying close to the score, reducing to 10-12. However, at that point in the derby, Olympiacos went on a 7-1 run, escaping 19-11, and although the home team managed to reduce the deficit to 18-20, they eventually saw their opponents reach 25-21 and celebrate the important win.
