Who was George Valavanidis?
Giorgos Valavanidis was born was born in Germany on February 16, 1974, he started playing basketball from the local team of Fero Evros where he came from and in 1988 he came with a transfer to PAOK. At the age of 17, from 1991 he was a member of the men’s team, with which he won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in Geneva in 1991, the Greek championship in 1992, and the Korats Cup in 1994. He was a member of all the small National teams and with the national team of children won the silver medal in the Eurobasket for children that took place in Thessaloniki in 1991.
He left PAOK in 1994 and then played in MENT for 6 years (until 2000) and playing basketball even after his 40 years, played among others in Xanthi, Kolossos Rhodes, Nikopoli Prevezas, Panorama, Apollon Kalamaria, Asvestochori, Eleftheroupoli and Zefyro.
In 2010 he returned to PAOK, his great love, as a coach of the academies and from 2013 he was in charge of the PAOK Junior Basketball Program.
