The example of St. Pauli and Werder Bremen followed by Freiburg abandoning it Twitter.
The German club, in a statement, points out that it advocates completely different values from the hostile climate that prevails at the moment in the Twitter blaming Elon Musk directly.
In addition, the Freiburg urges her fans to follow her on Blueskya platform quite similar to Twitter.
What Freiburg’s announcement states in detail:
“The sports club is ceasing its activities on the X platform, formerly Twitter, with immediate effect. Values such as diversity and tolerance, which the club advocates in its constitution, are trampled on this platform.
The rapid radicalization of the platform is palpable in a flood of hate, agitation and conspiracy theories. Regulations and sanctions are now almost non-existent. On the contrary: Elon Musk, who took over Twitter two years ago, is personally responsible for publishing and distributing much of this content.
It has reached a point where the sports club no longer just wants to “carry on as before”. Standing up to xenophobia, racism and discrimination is part of our self-image. Staying on the platform can no longer be justified in light of X’s current evolution.
Freiburg will therefore take its first steps on the Bluesky platform. We invite anyone interested – especially the lively SC community that has grown over the years on Twitter and which we will no longer be updating on X – to follow SC Freiburg on Bluesky for daily content.
How our presence on this new platform is received for us will have to be observed and evaluated in the coming weeks and months.”
