Qualification jump for the awesome and terrible Atalanta! Gian Piero Gasperini’s team broke up with the emphatic 6-1 her Young Boys in Bern, to reach 11 points. In essence, the “Bergamaski” have locked qualification to the knockouts and are now chasing the top eight, being undefeated (3-2-0) and conceding just their first goal in the tournament.
De Kettelar is a big star for the Italianswho had a hand in five of the six goals, putting on a performance straight out of… a fairy tale. The Belgian in the 9th minute served 1-0 to Retegi, who continues to score in bursts in every competition. Two minutes later the Swiss made the ‘mistake’ to equalize with Ghanboula, with the 1-1 making the hosts believe in the turnaround, climbing very high up the pitch. Something they paid for in a… ugly way.
Because an explosive 11 minutes followed, where Atalanta found three goals. De Kettelar in the 28th minute scored to give his team the lead again, to serve in the 32nd and 39th goals scored by Kolazinac (s. with an unimaginable race from one area to another) and Retegi, writing the 4-1 of the first part.
The Belgian added his name to the scorers’ table for the second time, while in the 74th minute Kolazinac’s second personal goal was disallowed for offside. The Italians slowed down, but eventually found a sixth goal, with Samardzic scoring a terrific goal with an individual effort to put the icing on the cake (1-6).
Inter climbed to the top of the standings, which continues with broken brakes! The “nerazzurri” showed again the classic traditional Italian style, they beat Leipzig 1-0 and reached 13 points. In fact, Simone Inzaghi’s team is the only one in the League Phase of the Champions League that has not yet conceded a goal!
Inter were completely superior in the first half, in total control. They pressed, created phases, won static balls and from one such came the lead. From Dimarco’s free-kick, De Frei got the header back at his feet Lukebawho unwittingly sent it into Gulaschi’s net for 1-0 which was also the halftime score.
The second part was quite different. Low tempo, Inter played more conservatively and managed their lead. Dumfries made it 2-0 in the 47th minute, with Nousa coming close to equalizing for Leipzig in the 70th minute but Sommer had the answer. Two minutes later, Tiram missed a header from a good spot, with Mkitararian finding the net on 90’+2′ but his goal was disallowed for an attacking foul. The 1-0 remained and did not change until the final whistle of Pinheiro, with the Nerazzurri taking a great three points and embracing the top eight.
