Heartthrob of the series “Suits” for seven seasons, Patrick J. Adams said he does not regret leaving the cast at the height of production. The actor, who played Mike Ross and was Meghan Markle’s love interest in the series, said that his departure was motivated by the need to prioritize his health: “I wasn’t taking care of my mental health and I was drinking too much.”

Adams admitted that, at the time, he didn’t realize he was suffering from depression. “I was living without thinking. I only knew how to spend money and drink a lot. I didn’t have the tools to deal with depression and I didn’t know how to talk about it,” he said in an interview with the Dinner’s on Me podcast.

Patrick J. Adams continued: “I numbed myself to deal with my insecurities and fears. It didn’t work. What made me change and want to stop drinking were my children,” said the father of Aurora, 6, and Elliot, 3. “I was becoming an absent father, and I didn’t want that,” he added.

Married to actress Troian Bellisario, Adams acknowledged that he lost money when leaving the series “Suits” — he returned to participate in the final two episodes of the ninth and final season. “The only reason to continue [na série] it was… money. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about how much money Gabriel Macht [Harvey Specter] won those last two years, but I never regretted the decision.”

Meghan Markle, who gave life to the character Rachel Zane, also left the series in the seventh season. The reason? Her marriage to Prince Harry.
