The exhibition match that Russian tennis players Daniil Medvedev, world number one, and Andrey Rublev, ranked seventh, had scheduled for next March 21 in Mexico City ended up being postponed to 2023, informed the organizers of Tennis Showdown Mexico.
“Due to all the current circumstances in the world, and in consideration of all the parties involved, the Tennis Showdown Mexico organization, together with the players, has decided that this is not the time to hold this exhibition game,” said the organizers of the event. this Sunday (13).
According to the statement, “both Medvedev and Rublev have committed to playing the match on March 20, 2023, and are excited to come to Mexico City.”
This is the second postponement applied to an exhibition game by Daniil Medvedev. On September 16, 2021, he would face Austrian Dominic Thiem, who canceled his participation due to a wrist injury.
In November last year, it was announced that Rublev would replace Thiem in the duel with Medvedev in Mexico.
Medvedev and Rublev are currently participating in the Indian Wells Masters as independent athletes due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Last Sunday (6), on the central avenue Paseo de la Reforma, in Mexico City, a group of people, including Ukrainian citizens, held a protest to demand an end to Russian attacks on the country.
