Paris: “It would not be reasonable and fair to play against Fenerbahce”

by

With her Paris facing many competition problems due to infection and injuries, the EuroLeague made the decision to proceed to postponement of the match between the Parisians and Fenerbahce for matchday 17, as the French could not complete the required eight players.

A few hours after the decision, which the truth is… it divided the European basketball public, Tiago Splitter’s team referred to the major problems plaguing the club these days, stressing that it would be unreasonable to hold the match under these conditions.

Paris’ announcement in detail:

“As of Thursday morning, the club had only six players who were medically fit to train, as a result of which the Euroleague postponed the previous day’s game due to a virus that had affected almost the entire team. It is recalled that on Tuesday night, three players were too ill to travel to the adidas Arena to host Real Madrid, while another tried to play but eventually had to withdraw due to discomfort.

This Friday, the professional team trained in three separate groups to prevent any further spread: the players who had contracted the virus or were recovering were isolated from the four who were not infected.

At the moment, we are monitoring the situation very closely. 24 hours a day.

In addition, Paris deeply regrets that many fans – both ours and Fenerbahce’s – could not attend this match for the 17th matchday of the Euroleague.

Our thoughts are especially with the loyal fans of Fenerbahce who traveled a long distance to come to the adidas arena. We would like to remind all ticket holders that their tickets will be valid for the rescheduled match, in consultation with Fenerbahce and the Euroleague.

However, it just didn’t make sense to play last night for everyone in the room who could come into contact with our players and staff – including those from Fenerbahce.

Furthermore, it would not be fair to the spectators to offer a match below Euroleague standards, as defined by the competition’s regulation which allows a match to be postponed when a team has fewer than eight players available.”
