Peters: “Our game has to start from the defense, we have a lot to improve”

by

Olympiacos struggled, but finally prevailed with 106-94 of Amarousios in SEF for the 11th game of the Stoiximan GBL.

After the end, the top scorer of the match, Alec Petershe spoke about the improvement that the “red and whites” need to show ahead of the very demanding sequel, while also referring to his coexistence with Vezenkov and the upcoming game against Armani Milano.

In detail what he said:

“It was not an easy game, we struggled defensively, we have talent and we score points but we have a lot of work to do in the second half. Halfway through the season is a good point to see where the team is because then things get tough. In January and February you see where you are and then you try to be in the Top-4 of the Euroleague and have the lead, while we also try to go to the first place in the league. We have to see where we are and we have a lot to improve.

Armani is playing well, she has everyone’s attention. They may have had a rough start but they have a quality roster and we have to show up ready. The last two years we have lost there, so it will not be an easy game for us. The last few weeks have not been easy, so we have to play well.

It’s a team sport and you have to approach it that way. Whether it’s Sasha playing or me, it’s all about the team. That’s what I try to remind myself and do the best I can.

We have the ability to score 100 points but defensively we are not that good and that is where our identity has to start. We have to raise our performance. We have to get better in transition, in the paint. A lot of teams have good three-point percentages against us, there’s a lot we need to improve. And we will, through training I hope we get better.

Holidays can be a bit difficult because we work. This is the downside of this job. It’s great because we play basketball, show our skills and make people happy but we have to travel on Christmas and New Years but I accept it because I like the people I work with.

It’s great when you play and there are kids in the stands. Sometimes we play late and it’s bad that kids don’t come. These are the future of the fans, of Olympiakos, these children who come here. We want to make them happy and that’s what counts for me. I hope we can pass the joy on to the next generation and make them love basketball”.
