Pickford kept Everton “up” in Manchester and City in… intensive!

by

Raised a “wall” in Manchester o Pickford and kept her City in intensive care! In a crazy match at “Etihad” his team Guardiola did not manage to taste the joy of victory for the fourth match in a row, since its goalkeeper Everton saved Haaland’s penalty and kept it 1-1 until the end!

With his goal Bernardo Silva the “citizens” took the lead in the 14th minute with Helped to equalize in the 33rd minute for the “sweets” taking them even further away from the relegation zone to Boxing Day 2024.

So the Manchester City stayed in 6th place of the standings with 28 points, with Aston Villa still within striking distance. On the other side, Everton found themselves at +5 from 18th place and feels more secure.

The match:

The start was strong for City, who just in the 4th minute had a crossbar with Guardiol’s header. Guardiola’s team tried from the first minutes to impose their pace and find a quick goal that would remove the stress, maintaining possession of the ball. The pitch had… gone downhill, after the “citizens” shut down Everton in their area with the pressure paying off in the 14th minute. A superb vertical pass from Doku to Bernardo Silva, who, under pressure from Branthwaite, made the play, the ball hit the English stopper’s leg, tricked Pickford and into the net for 1-0.

In fact, the hosts missed the chance to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Foden found the scorer, Bernardo Silva, but the Portuguese’s shot went wide.

Everton “timidly”, came out of their area, took steps on the playing field and in the 36th minute managed to freeze the “Etihad. Doukoure made the cross from the right, Akanzi made a “chaff”, the ball reached Ediage and the Senegalese, with an amazing shot, sent the ball into Ortega’s net for 1-1.

The start of the second half found City again approaching Pickford’s area, who denied Savinho a goal in the 50th minute.

A little later, however, the Brazilian won a penalty from Mikolenko’s sloppy marking. Erling Haaland took over, but was beaten by the excellent Pickford, who kept Everton in the match.

The “candies” kept their defense very well organized and in the 78th minute they almost turned the match upside down when Doucouré’s shot went against Guardiol and changed course, but the ball ended up wide.

1-1 remained until the end, since in the last attack of the match Everton’s players were inactive in the attack and failed to score with Harrison.
