A New Year’s gift to the friends of Panathinaikos was given by Dimitris Giannakopoulos! Through his official account on Instagram, the powerful man of the “seven stars” announced that the Matias Lessor signed a new contract until 2028while a little later came the official confirmation from the “green” OEM!
The French centre-back, whose current contract was set to expire in the summer 2025will stay for at least another three years at OAKA, receiving increased earnings and putting his signature on an agreement which does not include NBA-out. Which means that potential suitors from the other side of the Atlantic will be left with… appetite!
THE Dimitris Giannakopoulos he went to his house in person Lessorwhere the Frenchman is after surgery for the fibula fractureand got him the much-coveted signature on the new contract, ensuring the EuroLeague’s leading tall for 2024 will continue to wear the green. At the same time, in this way he showed the team’s support for one of its most important players, despite him serious injury which will keep him out for almost the entire season!
“When it comes to family there are no negotiations.. You just lay on the couch, smile at each other for five minutes… and sign on for another 3 years”says the caption on Giannakopoulos’ post announcing the signing of Lessor. In fact, in the relevant photo the strongman of the “greens” shows five fingers and Lessor three more, sending a message about eighth star!
Lessor joined Panathinaikos in the summer of 2024 and was a catalyst in winning the Euroleague in the 2023-24 season, counting 13.6 points and 6 rebounds average in Europe’s top competition and covering… single-handedly the ‘5’ position. In fact, he won a place in the best five of the season, while this year before the injury he counted 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
We remind you that Dimitris Giannakopoulos had previously announced the renewal of the contract of two players, one for three years (Lesor) and one for two. It remains to be seen, therefore, which player has extended his partnership until 2027…
